Spanish (5-8)Katherine Azzinaro

Katherine received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Sacred Heart University.  Katherine is familiar with the New Canaan Public Schools as she completed an internship and student teaching at Saxe, as well as a long term substitute assignment teaching FLES at South and East Elementary Schools.  Most recently, she has been teaching Spanish at Moran Middle School in Wallingford. 

French/Spanish (5-8)Neji Sakly

Neji earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language, Literature and Education from Faculté des Lettres de Manouba, Tunis, Tunisia and a Master of Arts in French as a Foreign Language and ESL from New York University.  He holds National Board Certification in French 7-12. He began his career teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language in the  US Peace Corps, Tunisia.  He also taught High School French and English in Tunisia.  In the United States, Neji taught ESL in Morris High School in Bronx, NY.  He moved on to teach French and English at Frederick Douglass Academy in NY, NY.  Most recently he has been teaching French and ESL at Taft High School in Chicago.

Language ArtsMichelle Walker

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Sacred Heart University.  She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Literacy, Language and Learning at Fordham University.  Michelle has taught high school and middle school English in Connecticut (Monroe) and New York (New Heights Academy Charter School).  She has also served as English Department Chair at the New Heights Academy Charter School.  Most recently, she has been teaching English at Masuk High School in Monroe. 

MathLindsey Bowman

Lindsey received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Connecticut.  In addition to teaching, Lindsey has served as a People to People Delegation Leader since 2012.  Most recently, she has been teaching Math in the Bethel Public Schools. 

Grade 5 LATerri-Ann Adrian

Terri-Ann earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University and a Masters in Elementary Education from Sacred Heart University.  She also holds a Juris Doctorate from New England School of Law.  Prior to teaching, Terri-Ann had a career as an attorney.  Terri-Ann is familiar with New Canaan Public Schools as she has completed several long-term substitute assignments.  Most recently she has been a Grade 4 teacher at Tashua Elementary School in Trumbull.

Grade 5 ScienceKaren Pierce

Karen holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Delaware and a Master of Science in Natural Science from the University of Wyoming.  Karen began teaching at East Elementary School in Douglas, WY and then moved on to teach grades 4, 5 and 6 in the Westport Public Schools.  She has also served as an adjunct professor and teacher candidate supervisor at Fairfield University.

Grade 5 Lang. ArtsTonya Carter

Tonya received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Arts in Curriculum Development from the University of Michigan.  Tonya has been an elementary teacher in the Ann Arbor Public Schools since 1995.  She has also served in the district as an elementary math consultant and elementary science consultant, as well as a project director in the Ann Arbor Public Schools Rec and Ed Department. 

Math SpecialistLinda Santoro

Linda earned a Bachelor of Science in Photography from Syracuse University and a Master’s of Education in Elementary Education from the University of Hartford.  Linda taught elementary grades for several years before becoming a Math/Science resource teacher at the Hopewell School in Glastonbury.  From there she became a math instructor at CCSU.  Most recently she has been a math specialist at Jack Jackter Intermediate School in Colchester. 

ScienceAlison Ford

Alison holds a B.S. in Secondary Education: Biology from Western CT State University.  Alison completed her student teaching at Weston High School.  Alison is familiar with New Canaan Public Schools, as she has completed three full-year leave replacements as a Biology teacher at New Canaan High School.

MusicMatthew DeMella

Matthew received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from the University of CT as well as a Master of Arts in Music Education from Hunter College.  Matthew began his teaching career at the Robert F. Wagner Middle Schools as a General Music and Choral Music teacher.  For the past four years, Matthew has served as a General, Instrumental and Choral Music teacher for grades 6, 9-12 at Eagle Academy for Young Men in NY.

SRO Jeffrey Deak

School Resource Officer (SRO) Jeffrey Deak has served with the New Canaan Police Department for 18 years, filling many roles – patrol officer, field training officer, bicycle patrol officer, dispatcher, defensive tactics instructor, physical fitness instructor, firearms instructor, Acting Sergeant and certified School Resource Officer. He is the Executive Officer of the of the Department’s Special Response Team. During his career he has received dozens of letters of appreciation and/or commendations for exceptional performance of his duties. 

SRO Deak has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Ithaca College. He and his wife, Aileen, have three children. SRO Deak has be

en a youth sports coach for many years. He spends many hours each week volunteering to mentor & serve the youth of his community.

Student Accident Insurance

Below, please find information on this year's Student Accident Insurance.  If you chose to purchase the policy, please send the information directly to the issuer of the insurance, not the school office.  Thank you!

6th Grade Mountain Workshop Trip

This year the sixth entire grade team will participate in a team building field trip at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, Ct. hosted by Mountain Workshop of Danbury, Ct. So that we can take full advantage of this opportunity, the trip has been scheduled to take place within the first few weeks of school.
The Green Team will go on Monday, September 15, the Red Team will go on Tuesday, September 16, the Blue Team will go on Wednesday, September 17, and the Purple Team will go on Monday, September 22.
The cost for this trip will be $55.00. On the day of each trip we will leave the school at 8:30 and return by 2:45. Part of the purpose of this trip is to assist in your child’s transition to 6th grade as well as provide all students with educational and team building experiences that will complement their PE work in Project Adventure this year. 
Payment for the trip may be made by check (made out to the Saxe Activity Fund) and included with the signed Student Release Form, or electronically, by using SchoolCash. If you wish to pay electronically, please go to or on the district website parents/online payment.

A Student Release Form (attached below) must  be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian for all attending students. Students are also asked to bring a totally disposable bag lunch and snack. (Please no glass bottles or nut products.) We are requesting that the signed form be turned in to your child’s Social Studies teacher by Friday, September 12th.
