8th Grade Transition to the High School


Dear 8th Grade Parents:  
Welcome to the 2015 Transition website.  Our goal is to provide timely and useful information about your child's transition to NCHS as the year progresses.  If you don't see what you are looking for please contact your child's school counselor.

Transition Timeline


  • Saxe school counselors available for questions & guidance


  • Saxe counselors provide students an introduction and orientation to NCHS & the transition process - January 8 during school
  • Parent Coffee - January 14  (see above)


  • Performance Tasks for Honors/AP courses (optional) - Feb. 3, 4 & 5th after school (see below)
  • Make-up Performance Tasks - Feb. 10, 11, 12 after school (see below)


  • 8th Grade Student & Parent Orientation Night - March 11 @ 7:00
  • NCHS Electives Assembly - March 18 during school
  • NCHS sends first draft of schedules
  • Saxe school counselors & NCHS students help students make electives requests - March 25 & March 30 during Social Studies


  • Mr. Ari Rothman, NCHS Assistant Principal, visits 8th grade classes

Performance Tasks

In the Saxe cafeteria immediately after school until 3:30/3:45.  Description & materials needed posted below ("Description of Performance Tasks").

Tues. Feb. 3 = Science

Wed. Feb. 4 = English

Thurs. Feb. 5 = History

Snow Dates = Feb. 10, 11, 12

The following was emailed to all 8th grade parents on Jan. 26:

​Dear 8th Grade Students and Families,

Below you will find the link to register for the NCHS Honors/AP Performance Assessments, which will take place in Saxe cafeteria, February 3rd – 5th.  You may use the link below (which can also be found on our website, 2015 Transition) to register for the specific exam(s) in which your child is interested.  If a mistake is made when registering, simply resubmit the form. Please direct any questions to your child's school counselor.

Performance Task Make-Up Dates

We will holding make-ups of the NCHS Honors/AP Performance Assessments for students who were absent as follows:

Tuesday, February 10th @ 2:15pm: Honors Science
Wednesday, February 11th @ 2:15pm: Honors English
Thursday, February 12th @ 2:15pm: AP History

Please contact your child's school counselor if you have any questions.

Elective Options for 9th Graders

Reminder - see the Program of Studies posted on the NCHS website for a description of each course,.

Placement Appeals

Students wishing to be considered for a more rigorous placement at an honors or AP level after initial course recommendations have been made may appeal for reconsideration. Via the appeals process, these students may present reasons why they believe they would be appropriate for the honors program. Appeal forms for this purpose are available via this website and must be completed and submitted by the deadline date. A committee consisting of administrators, school counselors, as well as representative chairpersons and teachers considers the merits of each appeal and recommends accordingly.  Link to submit an appeal:
